SkyWatch Friday 1/23/09

Last week, I told Fishing Guy I had some pics with street lights, too, and hadn't put them up yet.  That inspired me to find more lights to take pics of, but I didn't make it to the neighborhoods where I thought there may be some. I took my camera to work today, and found some not as old lights to take pics of, and took a couple on the way home from work. There are street lights in each picture.

To see more skies from the world, click here: SkyWatch Friday.  Thanks SkyWatch team!

The first 3 pics were taken 1/11/09, in an old area of downtown. The Mill is our favorite place to buy ground coffee and beans, and to sit inside and drink coffee while relaxing.  We have a tradition of getting granitas after the farmers' market, which is a block away on Saturdays in the summer. They have a website, where people can buy coffee, and I started to put a link to it, but remembered that's against the rules of Skywatch.  They have no clue I put this pic in, and I have no connection with them other than being a customer.

These are from today:

  1. Hi Sue. Great shots. We have a big light on the pole in our backyard but the light has been burned out for years. The electric company said they didn't replace them any longer. Anyway hope you have a great day.

  5. I will be on the lookout for more light poles. I never thought about them as a photo subject and I know we have some in town!

  9. Thanks for the comments. I think I made it to all of your blogs to say thanks and hi.

Kathy, we have a huge light in our back yard that Larry's dad installed. The neighbors said they hoped we kept it, but it quit working a while back. It's still there, though, and morning glories love trying to see if they can make it to the top.

Chickengal, I still want to find more lights to take pics of, too.

  11. Hi Sue, I'm adoring your old area of town!... and all the variety of street lamps. And of course the sky, too.

Loved your story on rolling up that sod (which I find interesting in itself- ours comes up one lonely piece at a time)and not cleaning out the room for the bargain. Marriage is always fun isn't it? Your man was a big help and I like that you have your priorities straight... garden first. LOL
    Have a great weekend.

  12. P.S. I meant to ask you if you could manage to put up that link to the coffee purchase in another post? Sounds delightful. Would love to see the Mill, too.

  13. So interesting to see street scenes from your part of the world. And the reflected sky is a clever shot.

  14. Thanks for the complimentary comments, Bhavesh, Meems, and Linda.

I got the separate post up about The Mill, along with their website.

Yes, Meems, the garden comes first, and I'm afraid so does garden blogging. Well, I keep saying blogging is my winter gardening. LOL

Bhavesh and Linda, I think it's cool to get to see pics from other countries, too.

  15. Sue: Very neat shots of the lights in your skies. Thanks for the shout out.
I have fought with flying bird photos and just had a good day when they co-opertated.

  16. Bonjour Sue,
The first one is great with the reflection of your sky on it.
A nice idea for Sky Watch.
    Have a great Sunday.

I have to ask you how you enlarge your picture if it's no too much technical. Thanks.

  17. Thanks Fishing Guy and Catherine. FG, I forgot to put a link to your blog on your name. Catherine, I'll type it here, and then copy and paste it in a comment on your blog.

First, I go ahead and put my pics in the body of the post. Then, I click on the blue colored tab on the upper right, called "edit html". There will be a bunch of letters, and the size of each pic will show up as something like "width: 400px; height: 300px". I've noticed that the pics are not always the same size, but I go ahead and put in the numbers another blogger taught me to. I change the first number to 640, and the second to 480. Once, I had a pic that was vertical, so I reversed the numbers.

I think there are other ways to do this, but I don't know them. If I have a bunch of pics, I need to preview them to see if I've gotten them all enlarged. Sometimes I'm disappointed because the pics turn out grainy looking to me.

I hope this helps! Fishing Guy, or anyone else who happens to read this, do you have other ways to have larger pics on your blogs?
