SkyWatch Friday

Saturday, 11/29, my husband and I went to Omaha, an hour away, to buy a lap top computer for me.  My other one was a hand me down from my father, and very slow.  We didn't get any pics of me buying my new "baby", but on the way home, I remembered I had the camera with me, and took some snaps out the window of our vehicle.  It was late afternoon as we were heading back west. I had to delete most of them, but kept a few for today's Skywatch.

Click on the Skywatch button on the left to get to a list of skies to view all over the world.

  4. Sue, congratulations on the new computer! I know you will really enjoy it. They change so fast anymore-it's amazing what they can do now.

I ought to join in SkyWatch, but all we see here this time of the year is gray, gray and more gray! Well, once in a while we get a little sun.

I love seeing the elevators-looks just like here!

  7. Hi Sue, wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a message. Tracy DiSabato-Aust's book is often mentioned on other garden forums. Her experience is a big help to most gardeners.

I like your first skywatch photo. It really conveys the motion as you drive thru the countryside.

  8. I am so happy with my new MacBook. I had resisted switching from a PC since my career was based on PCs! What computer did you get?

  9. To someone from Europe these seem like iconic American images. Are these grain elevators? They remind me of the paintings of Charles Sheeler.

Thanks for linking to my blog! I'm enjoying yours.

  10. Those silos are gigantic!
    It seems an agricultural region.

I love the first one, imperfection always attracts the attention. In fact, you shares your real vision from the car window. Great.

We always need a new lap top. And it's always the good time to change. Sue , we don't need pictures of you, choosing the new laptop, we need pictures made by you ; )
Have a nice week-end "domisticating" your new computer!

  11. Those pictures sure do represent Nebraska in my mind, having never been though I can't say where I got this idea from. Great on the new computer!

    Nice shots, too!

  15. Sounds like you had a successful computer shopping trip :) I'm getting a laptop too. The computer I'm using is almost 13 years old and I won't be able to get downstairs for a long time to use it after my knee surgery this month.

  16. Thanks for the comments everyone!

I am enjoying my new computer, but the reach for the keyboard is an adjustment. It's a 15 inch MacBook Pro. My husband knows a lot about Mac computers, and he helped me pick it out. I got a discount because I work at a school.

It was trying to snow that day, but I'm thinking it was about finished when we were driving home.

We actually live in Lincoln, the capitol city of Nebraska, which in the census of 2000 had 225,581 people. I had to look up the difference between a silo and a grain elevator, and still couldn't tell. I think a silo is used to store things like grain, and a grain elevator is where farmers can bring their products and then they get stored in silos. If anyone reading this knows the difference, please enlighten me. There really are not very many large cities in our state, and there are a lot of farms and ranches.

The last photo was of a Purina plant or storage place of some kind. I sure don't know much about the countryside around me! I'll have to get pics of the wind turbines some time if I can get close enough.

I plan on taking pictures of buildings and whatever I find in Lincoln soon.

I looked up Charles Sheeler. He sure was a busy and talented guy!

  20. Hi again Sue - those photography books you mentioned might still be useful. They won't help you use your digital camera, but any writing about good photo composition, use of light etc. will still be applicable and useful today.

  23. Interesting SW - the moving one is a brave one.
I am not taking part in SW any more, I find it too crowded.
Thanks for all you kind comments.
