Do You Know Where Your Watering Cans Are, and How Many You Have?

Carol at May Dreams Gardens has requested that those of us who are potential members of her "SPPOTGWLS Society" do a census of their watering cans. I took it a step further, and took my camera with me when I went to see where my cans were. I noticed some had escaped my husband's eye when he was putting them in a pile on the driveway. I took those and put them here and there in the garage. One of the things we've been procrastinating about is organizing and cleaning out the garage so I can put my car away. I started to leave the cans where they were, but then decided to move some around so they could be seen better, so some may be pictured more than once. I counted 22, then came inside, and as my pics were uploading to my blog page, I realized I forgot to count and take pictures of my inside cans. There are probably 5 in the house.

As you can see, some of the cans are not used, and others sit around collecting rain for me to water with. This summer, I put a watering can and a few potted plants in my new bed to look pretty while the plants were still small.

  2. That is a very nice collection of watering cans. I don't have nearly that many but see many that you have that I'd love to have, even for decoration!

  3. Sue, I can see where clearing out your watering cans would make room enough for a car! I feel water can deprived now. :)

  4. Hi Sue!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog! I'm glad you did, because I'm enjoying yours! I am smiling at those photos of your watering cans...so many!!! Wow. I love the photos you took of them. I wrote a post earlier today and am going to attach photos I took of mine...all 3 of them...and put a link on Carol's site. I forgot to take the pictures after I wrote the post so I'm glad I stopped by. Now I'll go do that before I go to bed. Take care, Jan

  6. Well Sue, I decided to forego my post with photos of my (3) watering cans! It would be boring to look at, especially after looking at yours:)

I just left Carol a comment instead. I think you should get a prize for your creative display of watering cans! Jan

  7. Thanks for the comments! I was a little embarrassed to post these, as it is obvious not all of them are in the best shape. (I can't afford the ones that are perfect.) A couple have gotten rust on them, but I guess I could call that patina, and continue to display them. I have been wanting to find a watering can with the lines going up and down instead of around the can. One of these days, I'll find one at the right price.

My husband went to an estate sale with me last week, and I saw his eyes were looking at a plastic watering can, and then looking to see if I was going to notice it. I told him I have enough of that kind. I think he was amazed I didn't pick it up.

Jan, I wish you would go ahead and post the pics of your cans!

  8. Funny post!
Very creative. Like the metal cans, they seem to have more character than most others.

  9. What a fantastic collection of water cans!

I have only one. It is sitting on the gravel path in the cottage garden in front of the gable gate. It is green and metal.

  10. Five, I have five. Three are plastic, two dark greens and a blue; they've lost their roses. There's a really old galvanized one in the tool shed, I don't use it -- heavy! In the GH I have a faded yellow enameled watering can with a long spout that only holds about a quart of water, but reaches where I can't.

    Your collection is astounding.

  11. Thanks so much for posting your pictures. I thought I had a lot until I saw your collection. I use my watering cans as much — if not more — than the hose. Love 'em. I've posted pix on my site, too.

  13. Hi Sue - thanks so much for your kind comments on my blog. Blotanical is a little challenging to find your way around at first :) You've got quite the collection of watering cans. Wow! Some really neat ones in there too. Most of mine are child size, for my three little ones to use in the garden and sandbox

  15. I came right over from my blog to say thanks for the comment and to take a peek at yours. I must admit, you've made me look at watering cans in a whole new light. I thought of them as purely practical until I saw your photos. I think I'm going to be starting a new collection soon.
