New Kitchen, Part One

I've been working many hours a day to get things put away, and am almost done.  The new layout of the cupboards is so different from how my old ones were, that I'm having trouble deciding where to put some of the things.  I normally visit everyone's blog who leaves comments for me, and also others I try to follow.  I hope to get things done around here, and be able to get back to blog reading this week.

People told me I would make the kitchen homey.  I didn't have time to post the whole kitchen.  The homiest part will be in the next post.

I told Larry the first thing I would cook on the new stove would be spaghetti, since that's one of his favorite foods, and I haven't been making it much lately.  I was able to fix some today, and sat on a stool in the kitchen while Larry sat at the one chair we have out so far.  The dining room is still full of stuff.

Our walk through is in the morning.  There are some things that need to be fixed, but we are had a good experience with the remodel, and are pleased with most of how it turned out.  It has been more emotional for me than I realized it would.  When I looked through my other kitchen posts to see if there was a photo that showed if the south cupboard had drawers on it, the before photos of the kitchen caused me to grieve a bit for the loss of the old kitchen, and felt sorry for it, like I had broken up with it or something.

I wonder how long it will take for me to not be unhappy the dishwasher is running because I want to use the microwave or get water from the sink, and then be tickled at remembering it doesn't matter.  Now, the kitchen can be used when the dishwasher is running, which was what made me want to remodel.  No longer will a fuse blow, and there is room to maneuver.

Some of us are enjoying spring, and others will be soon.  We have only had one day above 60.  I got some lettuce and such planted that day, and cleaned up one of the flower beds.  This week, we are supposed to get some 50s.  I hope to make it out to garden at least one day.

  2. Sue, it is hard to let go of the old, to embrace the new and move forward, but you are doing it. Pretty soon you'll feel more comfortable and loving toward your new kitchen, it just takes a little time. The spaghetti celebration dinner sounds like just the ticket for you and your DH to break the ice.

May your spring be lovely. Relax and go with the flow.

Your new kitchen really looks nice. I like the picture of you too. Will save it in your folder here in my computer.

  5. Lookin' great. Bet you love it (especially now that it's done). What kind of countertops are those? They look like some kind of quartz maybe?

  6. Sue...It looks so wonderful. Before you know it will be yours, organized the way you like. But you will still reach for the odd glass in the wrong cupboard occasionally! gail

  8. It turned out very nice. Out with the old is hard tho, sometimes.
But it will all be okay in the long run.

  9. It looks as if they were able to use every inch of space, are those little nooks by the dishwasher for trays and baking pans and things?

The drawer pulls look great. Good choices.

  13. Wonderful! This is so exciting. :-) It looks like you guys got a lot out of this remodel and I'm sure you will forget your old love after the first dishwasher run. hehe. It does look homey and I can practically smell the spaghetti from here. Ok, it's a thin smell but it'll get stronger as I close in on your place. You were expecting me for dinner weren't you? LOL
Congrats on coming so far in this remodel. Great job, it looks wonderful!

  14. Sue, it turned out great! I particularly like the countertops. I can't remember what they are but they look super.

I had no qualms loosing my old home-made cabinets with the heavy pull out drawers. I do still miss the white though.

It won't take you long to have everything just where you want it and it will feel like your kitchen again.

    Congratulations on a great job.

  16. Oh Sue, it looks lovely! So much has happened since you took those pictures of the workman's foot! Your countertops and cabinets are beautiful. I know it is kind of bittersweet to say good bye to the old and embrace the new, but when you start adding back all your collectibles and homey touches, it will start feeling like your kitchen again. BTW, I loved the old Hoosier. I have been looking at them for years. One of these days, I am going to break down and buy one!
