A Few Blooms

While there are only a few daylily buds left, some flowers are just now beginning to bloom.

I just discovered ironweed this spring.  I don't know why I hadn't before, since I choose plants the butterflies like whenever I see them and have the room.  I'm glad it's a later bloomer, at least it is this year.

I cut back my only mum, 'Debonair' a couple times this season, and it is now determined to go ahead and bloom.  This is the first flower of the year for it, not quite fully opened.

The statice is late blooming this year.  This was lying down, so I found something to prop it up with.

Someone identified this reblooming iris that I got at the sale table last year.  I'll have to look it up when I get a chance, and will come back to add it.  (Yes, Glenda, this is 'Immortality'.  Thanks!)

I don't remember if I posted a photo of the oldest butterfly bush we have.  It is late blooming this year, too.

Jean's Bloomin' Tuesday is up and runnning.  Go check it out!

  1. It seems all I have blooming right now are Zinnias and Marigolds. Most of the perennials are stunned by the heat. Your mum is a lovely color, and your Butterfly Bush is a beauty. I am partial to white blooms--what luck to find a re-blooming Iris on the bargain table--it's lovely.

  2. Isn't ironweed the best? We love it, such a butterfly magnet and such colour for late-summer blooming. It's not open here yet, though. And congrats on the butterfly bushes...we treat them as annuals here!

  5. Sue, the white reblooming iris might be Immortality. I have it too.

I should dig up some ironweed from the fence rows. It is a native plant here and is a late summer/fall bloomer .

I wish my butterfly bushes looked as pretty as yours. I have a white, yellow and dark blue. The yellow seems to be dying.

  6. I'm so jealous of your ironweed...I can't find it anywhere out here...I guess I'll have to mail-order it for next year. Love the iris, it's so strange to see iris in the middle of summer...I'll never get used to it!

  9. Would you believe that mums are winter plants here? Just seeing one in anyone's garden is reason to ooh and aaah! over it. Loved this glimpse into your garden, Sue. As usual there's so much happening here!

  10. I just added Ironweed to my list. Most of my plants are blooming early this year, not late. I love anything that adds late color. Happy Bloomin' Tuesday! Jean

  13. My mums are blooming also. Most everything else is dying. I do have some black eyed susans that seem to love the heat that we are having. Love walking in your garden!
