Second Try at Foliage Follow-up

I recently switched to the new Blogger interface.  It's what I used for my GBBD post, but when I did my Foliage Follow-up, first, the photos didn't show up, then, when I went back trying to figure out why, and went back, the whole post was gone.

I am focusing on sweet potatoes, some ornamental, some grown for food.

I think this is 'Blackie' filling in a bare spot nicely.

I forgot to include a photo of its bloom for GBBD.

I bought 3 kinds of sweet potatoes, but can't remember which ones.  One may be Georgia Jet.

I plant them in pots because rabbits eat them if they are in the ground.

I ran out of pots, and don't think the chicken wire was put around the vegetable garden, so I decided to see what would happen if I planted some in one of the 3 sections of the compost pile, which was not finished composting.  These plants sure have grown larger than the others!

I hope there are lots of sweet potatoes under there!

I need to be eating more kale for the calcium and to make good use of it.  I think the leaves are pretty, too.

I keep forgetting to use the lemongrass, too.  Do you have any recipes or favorite ways to use it?

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love sweet potato vine, especially 'Black Heart' or 'Ace of Spades.' Neglected to plant it this year though. Yours are looking great, and it's always nice to see some herbal foliage too.

  2. Looking good. The potato vine is really nice. As for the new blogger, I don't like it. It scares me.

  3. I saw that they are offering a new interface on Blogger, but I resist change, and maybe now I'm glad I did.

I've always admired all your different tubs and buckets for planting. When my husband and I are out and about, we're always trying to find new (to us) and interesting pieces. THey're getting harder to find. I think everyone else is looking for them too!
    Have a wonderful weekend, Sue.

  4. I haven't tried the new Blogger interface whatever that is; whenever there are changes like this, it seems there are glitches at first, and I'm afraid I won't be able to figure out how to use it:) Sweet potato vines are a favorite ornamental of mine in pots, but I've yet to try planting some in the vegetable garden. The compost pile sounds like a great place for them--I've got a mystery vine growing in mine right now; I think it's muskmelon.

Happy Birthday, Sue! I hope you have a great day.

  5. I hear it's your birthday. Hope it's a great one!

  6. Oh, happy birthday then! I noticed you have extra big planters, so you put holes at the bottom! Do you eat only the roots of the sweet potato? Here, its tops and young leaves are eaten as vegies too. It's nutrient laden.

  7. Computers and programs get on my last nerve girl. I hate having to figure out this cyber stuff. I'm not very good with the herbs and grasses. sorry. Hope you had a good birthday Sue.

  8. Birthday? Oh I hope you had a lovely one!
About the lemongrass, do you grow it as an annual? I think I've seen it for sale here sometimes but it's not a common plant around here because it's frost tender I believe. My favourite Vietnamese takeaway meal is lemongrass chicken.
