I have some blooms to post for MsGreen"thumb"jean's Bloomin' Tuesday. I just posted a short one about verbenia bonariensis this evening, but see that Jean has opened her link to posts, so I am going to go ahead and put this up and get on her link. Click here or scroll down to see the post on verbena and talking to plants.
It's cold and rainy. I'm looking forward to the 70s they say are coming in a few days. I hope you all are enjoying the beauty of spring.
Awhile back, I posted a photo of this bergenia in bud, thinking that was the bloom, then, I posted it when the buds opened. Now, sections of blooms have separated from each other. What a fun plant! I'm thinking maybe my other 2 aren't going to bloom this year. I hope they all do next year.
After seeing primroses on other's blogs, I found a couple that asked to come home with me. The tag says, "Primula Auricula Mix".
These are a dianthus or sweet William of some kind. They bloomed all summer last year, and are getting started on their 3rd season in the garden. There are 2 blooms open so far.
These lovely irises are some of those I dug out from a yard where the house was about to be torn down. These are the first of that group to bloom They smell wonderful!
I can't remember what this little groundcover is. I don't let it go too far, because it's on the edge of one of my side yard flower beds.
I need to plant more violas in the ground. These have more blooms on them than those in pots.
These are the first photos I've posted this year on the woodland phlox blooming. I am tickled that I have 2 clumps besides the ones that have lived in a washtub ever since we moved here 12 years ago.
What I think is dwarf comfrey has lots more blooms than when I first posted.
That dwarf comfrey is so cute. Your yard is so pretty and green. My is still brownish. I think it was too cold here for once.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the first flower on this post? I fell it love with it right off the bat. How about the dward comfrey, do you know if it grows in zones 7-9?
ReplyDeleteLove your blog.
oops, guess that's "dwarf"
ReplyDeleteHi Tufa Girl and Paula,
ReplyDeleteI think winter all over was colder, and for us, longer than normal.
The first flower is bergenia, or pig squeak, because squeezing the thick leaves is supposed to make a squeaking sound. I tried it once, but didn't hear anything.
That's funny about the "dward". I didn't even notice it when I read it in my email.
The bergenia is fascinating! It's new to me, but we are the same zone so it should grow here. I am going to look out for one.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful blooms Sue. I love the Bergenia, especially.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bergenia! Any idea which variety it is? I also like your purple phlox and the inquisitive yellow lab.
ReplyDeleteYour blue iris are so lovely! Pig Squeak! It's beautiful and the name makes me like it even more LOL!
ReplyDeleteManuela
You have such lovely shades of blue in your garden Sue. Those Iris are a real keeper, glad you saved them. And that Bergenia bloom is so cool. Can't wait till mine flowers. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your bergenia in the first picture. The blooms are fantastic. I am in zone 9, I have never seen one of those plants so I will have to check it out to see if it will grow here!
ReplyDeleteHappy Bloomin' Tuesday..
Ann
You have some wonderful spring blooms. I am guessing blue is a favorite color!
ReplyDeleteI love the bergenia and dwarf comfrey; I may check into those. Our heat and humidity may be prohibitive.
Wow Sue, what wonderful flowers you have. Most of which will not grow down here so I will just have to be content watching them grow in your gardens.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy ~ FlowerLady
I just got a bag of about 20 blue irises from a fellow gardner. I know it's too late this year, but I've got the perfect spot picked out for next year.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your garden, BTW - I've been following you for a while now and love the transformation.
I planted a bergenia 6 months ago and it promptly got eaten alive. Diligant spraying with an organic spray has seen it resurrect itself, thank goodness, and it now has about 5 or 6 leaves. How long did it take before yours flowered? I can't wait until mine does.
ReplyDeleteI loved the dwarf comfrey too, and am going to look out for it.
I planted borage 2 years ago. It is beautiful and grows and flowers prolifically. Trouble is, it seeds faster than you can pull 'em out. Hard to be annoyed though, when it has such pretty blue star-shaped flowers.
Wow, that one primrose's foliage looks nothing like primrose foliage! BTW, you were wondering in a comment over at High Altitude Gardening who started Mish Mash Monday, and it was me!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour bergenia is gorgeous. I will have to keep my eyes open for that plant when I'm shopping. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteGirl what beauties you have there. I am in love with the first photo. Bergenia. Stunning blooms.
ReplyDeleteI love all the blues you have today. I have a lot of blues coming up - that is if they bloom.
Everything is just lovely. And like most other commenters I love the Bergenia, too.
ReplyDeleteCount me in on the bergenia love. The flowers are beautiful! I had bergenia in my garden, but it has failed and it never bloomed. May have to try again, in a different spot. Give it a bit more love this time. :) Thanks for sharing your garden pics. I enjoyed the stroll through your garden! ~~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteSue all of those primroses and blooms look so wonderful. That flower looks an awful lot like the Veronica Waterperry Blue that I have been tempted to buy a couple of times now. Your Irises are a little ahead of mine.
ReplyDeleteI love the tiny flowers of your bergenia. They are just lovely. But, my favorites are your lavender colored iris. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love Bergenia! Love all your flowers, it is so great to see all the blooms. As i write it is snowing out on all my blooming daffodils and ever emerging perennials! They call it poor man's fertilizer up here. LOL Blessings Meg
ReplyDeleteLovin' all the blue blooms! The bergenia just gets leaves with too much sun according to what I've been told. I forgot to add mine today. Great Bloomin' Tuesday post. I try to have my post up around 9 on Mon night. Jean
ReplyDeleteLots of lavender blooming there! I've never seen Bergenia do that before. Some of my Irises are close to blooming too, they are very similar to yours.
ReplyDeleteI Love all your beauties...but the Bergenia is really beautiful and sounds like a joy to watch....
ReplyDeletePrayers, Bo
Enjoyed seeing all the colours in your garden. They all look so pretty and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!Your primrose looks different then the ones we have here.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pics - all that pretty purple...my favorite color.
ReplyDeleteI love the primroses, too.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Sue, I didn't read all the comments so forgive me if this has been mentioned but I believe the mystery ground cover is Parahebe linifolia. Mine is being riddled by spittle bug but at least it's alive. :) I'm definitely partial to your Dianthus blossom!
ReplyDeleteIs your front arbor new? I love it.
Okay, maybe not. I just saw read Lona's post about the creeping veronica. Just ignore me. I'm confused. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love that Bergenia! Beautiful flowers and very architectural too.
ReplyDeleteI love your Violas and Dwarf Comfrey -- you have many beautiful shades of blues going on in your garden now!
I love the blue theme through your garden photos. Those light blue iris are a beautiful colour. It's a good thing you rescued them. Woodland phlox has such a pretty flower, even if it only blooms for a short while. I have some lavender coloured ones, but they won't be out for another month.
ReplyDeleteA dwarf comfrey would be nice in my garden~It gets ginormous, but I do like the leaves and flowers very much. Sue, I just love all the lavenders in your spring garden...gail
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your gardens. And your beautiful pictures remind me to use my hubby's camera instead of mine :) Beautiful. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous lavender colors. So many gardeners growing Bergenia. I must give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThe dwarf comfrey is a wildflower out here. I'm seeing it in bloom everywhere and I'm glad to now know the name!
