June 4, 2008, waiting for the rain to stop, and trying to keep it off newly dug bed, added to the circle bed that was mostly oranges and yellows:

It was also a year ago that I discovered the Cottage Garden Forum on ivillage's GardenWeb.  I've mentioned this before, but that is where I met some very nice people, some of whom got me interested in blogging.  I got lots of encouragement that my bed would be fuller this year.  It is, but I'm still wanting to plant some early spring bloomers that don't need much room later, when the annuals get bigger.  The bed originally was going to be for large growing annuals, but I kept finding perennials I wanted to grow, and I'm glad I did, because they fill up some spaces that would be dirt right now if they weren't there.

  1. Hi Sue~~ I love photos like this, the befores and afters. You've definitely designed a beautiful corner garden. The wire fence really sets it off. The thing about gardening is that it's never instant but the results are worth the wait.

  6. Looks like everything is filling in very nicely! I hope your borrowed smoke tree does well with you caring for it. I hope my black hollyhocks don't come back another color, yikes! I want them to be black! I know lemon balm can go crazy, but it's in a pot so maybe it will behave itself. What do you think?

  7. It's looking good. Makes me feel bad that I have completely neglected my yard. I really need to get off this computer. :-)
