Happy New Year!

A few days ago, a blogger, I can't remember who, said something about a blue moon coming. Last night, I noticed a beautiful blue sky around the moon, so wondered if that's what it was. I looked it up, and found a couple different stories of what a blue moon is. It's now thought of as when there is a second full moon in a month. The NASA website had some good information about it. I posted some photos of last night's moon on my SkyWatch post on my other blog.

Since tonight's moon is the blue one, I started to go out to take some photos, but it was too cold to walk to where I could see it, so I took some out of my garden window.

Some have asked me what kind of camera I have. It's a Canon PowerShot SX10IS. I sure love the zoom and night time features on it! It's fine for the outdoor shots I like to take, and even has a video feature on it. It does not take very good photos inside, though. The slightest movement of the subject causes blurring. When I use the flash, it causes a glare. Larry says there is a better flash we can get that is separate from the camera. I have had the camera a little over a year, and need to finish reading the manual and learn how to use some of the other features.

I hope your New Year brings you much joy and garden fun.

  2. I was outside looking at our perfect full moon last night (seeing in the new year here in New Zealand) and seeing your post it struck me that the markings I saw were different so we must see a different perspective of the moon. (My first piece of trivia for the year lol)

I have also just progressed to a digital camera. There was nothing wrong with my existing one except that it used 35mm film and - astonishingly (to me at least) there is nowhere in town to get them developed anymore :-(
I use so much technology at work and yet this silly little digital camera terrifies me. However, I am learning. I managed to successfully upload some photos to the computer last night. I am still working out why they come up so enormous and how to rectify this. At present they are way to large to send to anyone in an email.

Anyway, enough rambling. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your "doings" and seeing your garden through the seasons.
    Have a wonderful 2010.

  5. Sue girl ! That is a wonderful picture of the moon ! We have overcast skies with rainy snow if you can believe that .. so no chance of me seeing the moon ;(
We always seem to be hunting for the perfect camera .. I have been looking at Canon ones too .. not that my Olympus isn't doing the job. I just want to find "the" camera that is perfect ? LOL
Have a great New Year Sue : )

  9. HAPPY NEW YEAR SUE!! Great photo of the moon. My camera doesn't like night shots - guess I need to figure out the settings a bit better. Great photo though!

  10. I have the same camera and found that the trick to good indoor photos is to use the SPORTS mode on the dial on the top that has the nighttime, etc. modes.

For some reason, the SPORTS MODE works without a flash and has the right light balance. It's like a motor, so there's no lag at all and you can continuously take frames. It is also great for capturing movement such as a big family gathering where someone always is moving during a photo!

    Cheers and Happy New Year!

  11. The hare in the moon is really clear in your photo! We had a partial lunar eclipse last night which was exciting-http://hecketyathome.blogspot.com/2009/12/and-to-finish-2009.html
but my camera isn't nearly as good as yours so the photo is hopeless.

All the best to you for the New Year!

  12. Sue I have the same camera and haven't figured out how to take moon pictures. Yours is so pretty! Do you know which setting it was?
I'd also love to know what flash you end up getting, I have the same problem with mine.
Have a very happy New Year! It was so nice getting to know you this year!
