Grace told me I better be getting my seeds planted outside, so I went to the garage to get the stem that had broken off the plant at church that had more seedheads on it. I planted some seeds in pots, and some in the ground. I hope they grow. I didn't plant them very deep because I didn't take any tools with me to loosen the ground. I saved some back to plant deeper in another spot later.
All these are on one main stem, which dried after breaking off of the main plant. (I had cut the one and placed it in the vase in the previous post in hopes of it growing roots in water, but it didn't.)
I love the seed heads!
I took some of the seeds off to see what they look like.
These are the seeds that were left on that bloom.
I found a photo from the Kansas Native Plant Society that shows a Fremont's clematis in bloom. The site gave permission to show it if it's not for commercial use, and to give credit to the photographer, who is Craig Freeman, in Russell County, Kansas. I'm not sure if Craig lives in that county, if that's where he took the photo, or whether it's both. I like his photo, though!
Have a great weekend!
I'll be curious to see if the Clematis germinates. I have had zero luck with other types of Clematis seeds..Grace is a good one to listen too though. I will smile and think of you everytime I read/hear a count down to spring Sue. Have a super Saturday!!
ReplyDeleteIs this supposed to work just with the
ReplyDeleteFremont or with all clematis?
None of mine have ever self-seeded.
Good luck with yours.
I am also curious to see if your clemmie germinates. Unfortunately Sweet Autumn clemmie does~it's very aggressive here. gail
ReplyDeleteI hope you have good luck with this.I always direct seed natives and map where I put them, hoping not to disturb or weed them.

ReplyDeleteThat is one beautiful clematis! The flower and the seed head both are pretty. I have never planted clematis seed so this will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThose are cool looking seeds! Thanks for checking Trader Joe's for the bag. I appreciate it! No need to check with your brother-in-law for Colorado bags. Thanks for the offer!
ReplyDeleteWhen Trader Joe's first opened here in Manhattan, it was super packed with people. It still is!!
Sue, you always have something interesting to share with us. That's what keeps me coming back...and also your pleasant, sweet personality.

I love those charming little lantern blooms...and those seedpods are awesomely wicked looking! You have such an amazing variety of plants...you are like a miniature Botanical Garden :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope the seeds germinate for you. Those dainty bell-shaped flowers are so charming.
