Our warm fall seems to have been sent running. The cold and snow over a wide area have been on the news the last few days. We missed the huge amounts of snow some folks got, but we did get some. Yesterday, my husband and I each had a different funeral to go to. The streets were not in bad shape, but snow was blowing up to 10 feet high and swirling all over. I don't remember what the highs were yesterday or today, but they did not get much above the single digits if they did. Well I guess it did today, because it's 10 F. right now.
I stood on the porch around noon yesterday and took some photos. It was so windy, the windsock was almost horizontal.
It was snowing at this time, but not as heavy as later.
What a difference a day makes! These photos were taken today around 4:00 p.m. I still stood on the porch to take the photos, because of the cold.
The sun was preparing to set.
The snapdragons are still green. It looks like the blooms are finished, though.
I don't know how long it will take for this bit of snow to melt, but it's sticking longer than the first snow we had.
I'm still hoping for more snow, but hope the temps warm up a bit. Wherever you are, I hope things are going well for you and you are keeping warm.
Oh my gosh~ Seeing these pictures I said to DH I would not like to live up north, he said unh unh, not this time of year. We've lived down here way too long. Your temps sound miserable, but I love the sunlight in your winter wonderland in the afternoon. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteYou are hoping for more snow and I'm thankful for having some chilly/cold weather for us down here.
Have a lovely Christmas season ~ FlowerLady
Brr is right. That does look cold! The late afternoon glow is beautiful though. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteYou later day images are really pretty. You are getting the snow and so are we. A cold front is moving in tomorrow. I am shivering just looking at your images from yesterday.
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteSure looks cold! We are looking at 15-16 degrees in the next few days too! Any colder than that and some of the camellias will die.
The snow really gives the garden a whole new look, it's like icing on the cake huh? :)
ReplyDeleteSue, your pics look like our yard....we had the winds too. It is 7° now and will drop a few degrees by sunrise.
ReplyDeleteIt looks pretty ... as long as I don't have to be out in it for any length of time!
The wind is the worst. Very pretty snow. It's nice to see the "bones" of your garden. I see many galvanized tubs waiting for plants next spring. I'm collecting some of those too.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here on the Gulf Coast. I had temps this morning in the mid twenties. Tomorrow morning expected to be in the upper teens. You know its expected to be around freezing as far south as Orlando. We might not be able to afford the cost of oranges. It looks awful cold there. Guess you'll get another blast today.
ReplyDeleteWe have no snow, but are getting a ton of rain, and a lot of flooding in some areas of Western Washington.Lucky for us living on an island, we don't have flooding.
ReplyDeleteI have ignored thetemps today, we never got over 6 yesterday so I baked and made fudge on a large scale to send around to my neighbors.Your sunset is gorgeous, I really like the colors.
ReplyDeleteI spent all weekend putting away plants, covering the big ones, digging up some of the ones that mean the most...and....it didn't freeze! Even after they change the forecast from 30 to 28 for a low! We got down to only 36, so I'm still frost free until the next round. Keep warm and warm wishes. Thanks for stopping by my garden blog the other day. :-)

I keep looking for a lady with a sprinkling can like that - I covered for an hr. It will all come back but I miss the flowering sunflower trees and orchid trees. I had lots of blooms but frost took them all. The thing about Fl be back in less than a month
ReplyDeleteIts cold everywhere, this morning. I am also in zone 5b which is interesting because our ground looks just like yours with the same amount of snow. this morning was 9 degrees while watching the Geminid shower.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite cold here Sue~ a lot like a Nebraska cold~9* and wind blowing! One things for sure~I can no longer count on weather as usual. What a lovely view you have of the skies! gail
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Sue! You're definitely going to have some festive weather for the holiday! Your glowing afternoon light is so peaceful...
ReplyDeleteBrrr! Your photos of your winter landscape are lovely. Fall is definitely done here now, and brown is the dominant color. We actually had snow flurries this past weekend, but nothing stuck. Temps are positively frigid, dropping into the teens. Things being the way they are, however, temperatures could easily bounce up into the 70s by Christmas. Winter is always such a roller coaster, since we are influenced by both the tropics and more temperate zones.
ReplyDeleteYour fire hydrant looks very festive now!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Sue. I love the one of the sunset light through the bare tree branches. It's nice to see pictures of snow in winter. Mostly all we get here is brown. Our temps have dropped to freezing a couple of times, but they go back up to 70 again. No wonder we get sick all the time!
