When I let Heidi out before bed last night, the beauty of the snow caught my eye, so I got my camera out and took some photos. Nancy Bond has not started her First Snowfall Project yet, but I am including a link to her site, so that you can watch to see when she gets it going. I don't keep up well with blogs I like, and don't know how long she has been writing on her new blog, Leaping Greenly, but it sure is beautiful!
I overwintered the pot with 2 rosemary plants in it last year, but it was pretty dry in the spring, and took a long time to recover. I decided to start fresh next year. I am feeling bad for the plants, though, and may change my mind.
This morning, I went out to see the snow. I didn't hear the official number, if there was one, but it doesn't look like an inch of snow fell. On the south side of the house, it was already melted at 8:00ish.
The east side of the house:
I can't remember who suggested I put sand in this chicken for the butterflies. I didn't get to it yet, but put this rock in, thinking they may like landing on it. This is the area to the east of the vegetable garden.
I didn't get as many vegetable garden posts done this summer. It wasn't the best year, but we did get some food grown. I hope the asparagus along the fence in the right of the photo grows well. The kale is loving this weather.
I am slowly accepting the change in seasons, but still looking forward to that day in December when the days start getting longer. Now, I am going to see about cleaning my kitchen cupboards before we go get KJ from my parents' house. Have a great weekend!
Beautiful fall pics with all the leaves. Snow is nice....but not a nice reminder of what is coming:)
ReplyDeleteReady or not, snow is coming. I love the pic with the snowfakes falling in the background.
ReplyDeleteWe actually had our first snow on Ocotber 27th. It was all gone the following afternoon. You might enjoy reading my post about it: http://www.thisgrandmothersgarden.com/2010/10/silent-and-soft-and-slow-descends-snow.html
Stay warm!
Oh my! Snow already! I saw in the long shot you took on the side of the house, the neighborhood trees are looking beautiful. I loved the pic of the melting snow on the maple leaf. I know what you mean about feeling sorry for the rosemary you decided to let go this winter. I have been feeling the same way about some of my pots on the front porch. I have a ficus that is just getting too hard to lug into the garage--and there is no room inside to put it.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue -- The First Snowfall Project is open for submissions and your lovely post will be the first one up! Thanks for the link and for posting your first flakes. :)
ReplyDeleteHello! Oh I'm not ready for the winter yet... I want a few more gorgeous autumn days. I loved the snow on the leaf picture, too!
ReplyDeleteI like the maple leaf peeking through the snow best.keep it over there please, I can wait.
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteLast year was bad for rosemary here, we lost a old timer in the garden. Seems early for snow but then it is nearly mid November.
I love snow photos...keep them coming!!!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the snow here, and will probably get it when Nancy does in Canada. I love snow images and the ones that Meredehuit had on her site were gorgeous. I really like your night shots with the snow falling gently.
ReplyDeleteIt does look pretty with the snow. I do feel bad for the plants too, I'm trying to bring every single one of them in that I can fit in our porch.
ReplyDeleteIt never snows here so I will be experiencing it via photos. It is so beautiful but must be cruel to the garden.
ReplyDeleteI love the nighttime pics with the snowflakes falling. They were all wonderful pictures of what's to come.
ReplyDeleteNo snow here yet................
Sue, The first snowfall is beautiful but, always good when it melts away! We never get to participate in Nancy's first snowfall~Ours usually arrives in February! I have one plant I bring inside when the weather gets bad. My 7 foot bay laurel tree~I use its leaves in cooking and would hate to lose it. gail
ReplyDeleteLovely pics, also the previous ones in the car park. I especially like the close-up of the yellow leaf on the ground.
ReplyDeleteWe very rarely get any snow here, though there are light falls in the mountains a few times over winter which is a pretty sight in the distance.
Nothing down here in the south of Scotland yet.
ReplyDeleteI remembered the First Snowfall blog when you mentioned it. I'm like you - there are so many great blogs that I don't have time to get round. How can it be a year already since first snowfall time?
I love the close-up shot of the leaves each cupping their share of the snow.
Hi Sue. Oh no! I am so not ready for the white stuff but I guess there is no stopping it. The flakes falling make a pretty photo though.
ReplyDeleteThe dusting of snow is nice to see.
ReplyDeleteThink we all worry about any damage winter may do to our plants....most seem to do well.
We are starting some indoor projects also, cleaning and painting...long over due.
Oh ick! I'm sorry Sue, but I hate snow! That means that winter is really here. No snow for us yet, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteit sure was pretty!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I'm reading blog posts about snow already, but I guess we ARE into November already. Where did the time go?
I love to see photos of snow. Not sure how well I'd deal with it if we actually had any here on a regular basis though. Looks like your garden is all tucked in for winter.
ReplyDeleteJust getting around to seeing your 'first snow'...only because I just posted mine, just about a month after you posted this! You guys are way ahead of us when it comes to snow this year;-) I enjoyed your photos...it's always nice to see that first snowfall. Love your wintery look on your blog, too;-)
