Oh, dear. I saw on the weather channel you might get snow. We are expecting a freeze tomorrow night. It's too soon!!! -- Love the way you told your picture story.
We dropped down to 19 degrees last night but didn't get snow. I heard that an arctic chill is sweeping across much of the country, and I forgot to mulch my hardy (?) agapanthus . . . I wasn't ready, either!
I was reading along through seeing your pretty flowers and was surprised when I saw the next pictures with snow. That looks like a pretty good amount for the first snowfall too.
What a shock to see that snow. I guess this is that time of year when anything can happen. And it always feels too soon for that first snow or killing freeze. Stay warm--I hope your knee is healing nicely.
I just posted this morning about the early snowstorm we had back in 2006 and the horrible damage that occurs when too much snow falls on trees that are still full of leaves!. Hopefully yours will melt and there will still be fall color to enjoy!
Oh My.....you did a great job telling your story...I can't believe you already have snow...it was 86 here today.....they say the high tomorrow will be 72. Prayers, Bo
Sue, I absolutely love the pictures you take. Your picture of the Lisianthus is especially stunning, and quite frankly, the "after" picture with the snow, is still a beatiful picture.
Having said that, all that is left to say is: Brrrr...
I hope we have at least a month before it snows here. I have too much to do still to get ready.
Sue, what a difference a day makes! I saw the weather map yesterday and thought you might get snow, but I didn't think it would be that much. Maybe the snow will protect some of your blooms and when it warms back up(think posiive!) they will still be pretty.
Oh, Sue! I was loving the pics of the zinnia and lisi. when suddenly, you hit me in the gut...lol! I remember our earliest snow last year was Oct. 26~oops, hope I didn't just jinx myself ;(
Your Lisianthus is spectacular, in both the before and after photos. What a rich, dark colour. I know exactly how you feel, the snow has come too early this year.
I thought you'd show the flowers fully open. I really didn't expect snow!! But what a way of showing....a sweet and sad post. Your photography is beautiful!
You totally reeled me in. I was so caught up thinking that you had so many flowers still wanting to bloom so late in the year and how neat that was then...Bam! Snow. This must be pretty early for you. We don't get our snow until December or later if we get it at all. I hope this is not a sign of things to come out there.
Thanks for all the comments and words of encouragement. I am pretty sad about such an early freeze. As I was pulling into the driveway after church this morning, my eyes went over to my garden across the street, and was not prepared for what I saw. It was pretty devastating. I don't think anything was alive. I'm glad I got my rosemarys and scented geraniums in. We had just brought the houseplants in a couple evenings before. I wish we had taken a few things into the garage. We didn't even put anything into the egress window yet.
Well, I hope we all have some nice fall days before the cold of winter is here to stay.
Hi Sue, I'm still hoping for Indian Summer... as I'm sure you are, as well! ;-) Our family in Omaha tells us they received 6" of snow! That's pretty crazy. (I'm so glad you had already brought in your houseplants!) Your photos are great, by the way.
Ohhhh! Noooo! I really am sorry for you guys who got snow out there! So soon--much TOO soon:-( I LOVE your Lisianthus bloom--before it got frozen to death! What a gorgeous flower that must be; I've never grown one! Oh Sue, it has to be tough to be shocked into 'winter' all at once...and fall has barely gotten started here! I'm just now accepting that it's time to stop fighting autumn and embrace it. I got pumpkins this weekend and we went apple picking. It was so lovely in the mountains. I hope once that snow melts, that you'll have some decent autumn weather before the 'real' winter hits!
Holy snow! Is that really snow? Real live snow? WOWOWOW! I didn't realize that people got snow so early in the year. I can't believe your flowers are all hidden under that!
I'd love a pic of the dog in the snow!! I loooooove a snowy yellow lab.

ReplyDeleteOh my, it's early for snow yet isn't it? It's beautiful but it's hard to say good-bye to the tender plants.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I love the before and after pictures, even though I am sad for the flowers that will never open.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, snow already...is that exceptionally early?
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI know that there is a time to grow and a time to die (in the garden) but I'm sad to see your beautiful garden phase out.

ReplyDeletethat must have been such a shock, despite knowing that it was coming. It's so incongruous to see snow on top of flower blooms.
