Critters

It's been amazing to see and hear the birds. I need to learn how to post a video. I took one to catch the sound of the birds. They kept flying over in large groups, and landing together at the tops of different trees, as if they were making travel plans together. (The photos enlarge when clicked on.)

I didn't get a photo of the rabbit that dashed out of the butterfly shelter the other day, but the squirrel thought it was hiding from me.

I was pleased to see another daddy long legs of some kind.

I think these are beetles of some kind on my viburnum.

Here's a closer view of the lower one.

  3. Lots of activity in your corner of the world, Sue. Loved the shot of the squirrel thinking he was hidden.

It seems we have waves of birds come in ahead of cool fronts now. Although most of the hummingbirds here have left for Mexico, I have left the feeders up, and seem to get a weary traveler daily, stopping for a drink before continuing their journey.

  5. I notice the birds are more active at this time of the year. Swarms of them at the birdfeeders or in the trees. Nice shots!

  10. I love to see large flock of birds. That is getting to be a rare thing these days. The beetle is a weevil of some sort. And the other insect looks like lady bug larva which is a good thing to find on your flowers because they love to eat aphids.

  11. That squirrel's profile is cute, Sue! I love seeing formations of canadian geese flying overhead...keep trying to take pics but they always come out blurry :( Cool if you can figure out the video post!

  12. That first shot makes me think of the crows that I see every spring and fall. They fly over our place on their way to somewhere else and I always pray that they keep right on going. They are so noisy and because I feed all the other birds I just know I would never get rid of the crows. LOL
Great beetle shot by the way and the squirrel is so cute caught unawares.

  13. I love the sound of geese when they fly over! And why they "talk" and fly at the same time, I don't know -- but it's a good sound -- whether it's fall or spring!

  14. I think you are right it isn't a ladybug larva. I just jumped to conclusion. Perhaps it is a Lacewing larva, that is even better. The overall body shape is like a lacewing. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Viburnums are wonderful aren't they? The smell can carry you away.

  19. Great shots of all these critters, Sue! I've noticed so much activity among the birds lately, too. I guess that's one advantage of the trees' losing their leaves--you can see the birds so much more clearly.

I've used a couple of videos in my posts, and they're really quite easy to include. Just click on the video icon instead of the photo icon as you're creating a new post. It does take a long time to download, however, so be patient.
