Some Kind of Small Woodpeckers for Camera Critters
These birds in our next door neighbors' tree are about the size of a sparrow, if my memory is correct. I tried to find out what they are, and they could possibly be downy woodpeckers, but their heads seem smaller to me. I wasn't able to get as close as I wanted to, because they flew away before the photos started to focus well. I don't know if I'll see them again, or if they were just passing through.

ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the downy woodpecker. Looks like he/she is busy trying to find insects for lunch.
ReplyDeleteThey can be downy or hairy woodpeckers. I think a red spot helps with identification but really it does not matter as they are such good birds to have in the garden. I hope they stick around for you.
ReplyDeletegreat birds! They eat bugs! :-)

Nice photography flowers!
ReplyDeleteThose look like Downeys. Hairys are more robin-sized, with much longer bills.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby has severe dislike of woodpeckers because they peck holes all over the house. But, I think they are kind of cute! I think they are Downeys, as well. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think they're Downy's as well;-) Hard to tell if they're young, (siblings?) or even older (parents!)...but they are cute!

ReplyDeleteHi Sue, You posted a comment on In the garden on my post, Getting growing. Well, I posted a reply but I wasn't sure you would get it so Here I am! Tina does a veggie garden update the 20 th of each month and I've joined the bandwagon, so my veggie are linked in the sidebar, and posted on my blog. Just thought you'd like to know, you left such a wonderful comment.
ReplyDeleteCute little birdies.
Great pics, it reminds we of the time two BIG woodpeckers came under the car port, I heard them and thought someone was knocking at the door, went to see who it was, no one was there, went back to working and heard it again, after about the third time I looked out the window and saw what it was. They can really do some damage to wood.
ReplyDeletePrayers, Bo
