Some Photos from Dec. 30, 2010

We haven't had much snow in my part of Nebraska, and it has all melted so far.  It is supposed to snow most of this weekend, and I am excited for a nice white blanket.  I just remembered that I was going to go out and plant some lettuce seeds in case it took a long time for the last snows to melt like it did last year, but I didn't make it out there.  I figured they wouldn't come up until the soil warms up enough, and if they didn't survive, I could always plant more.  I wonder if I can throw some onto the snow tomorrow.

I haven't been out to take photos since I took the tomato photos from the last post, December 30th.  I was tired of that being my last post, so decided to show how the curb bed looked then. It should be looking quite different soon.

When it gets to be this time of year, with the days getting longer, I get very excited about the prospect of the return of spring.  I have dreams where I'm starting to dig a garden, then realize it's an inside floor, and I wonder how it will grow, or else go by the gardens of others, and they have everything up, and I haven't planted anything yet.   Sometimes I dream that we've moved and I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to plant things.  Maybe because of getting garden fixes through blogging, I don't think I've had any of those dreams so far this winter.  Do you dream about gardening?

  2. Haha...that's funny, Sue...I did used to have really bizarre and vivid dreams about gardening...always bad...I haven't had those in a while...but I still remember them. Can't wait for spring and to see your plants start popping up again!

  3. We had another snow storm today, but not as bad as the blizzard during Christmas. I am excited about spring too. Can't wait.

  4. I see some hints of green here and there. I read the other day that some one is sowing poppy seeds on top of snow, maybe it will work for lettuce too..hope to see photos of your fresh blanket of snow.

  5. Oh and yes I dream of gardening...my husband caught me sleep walking toward the garden one night, I was saying, "I have to water my flowers." Now when I get up in the middle of the night I hear, "Darla, what are you doing, where are you going?" from my husband.

  6. Hi,

Nice to see some green growth isn't it? We have some spring bulbs beginning to appear at the moment and hopefully we'll see some begin to flower in the next few weeks/month.

I think I've had gardening dreams before but the only reoccuring bad ones I have are ones where my father is 'gardening' for me... You may not think this is a bad thing but he regularly pulls up perennials and throws them away, doesn't seem to understand that bulbs come back etc. So I have nightmares of him ruining my garden!

  7. I love seeing these winter shots of your garden...a lot of gardeners don't like to share these in between stages! It's amazing how different it looks when in bloom too, I love the contrast. We have a blizzard outside right now...so plenty of snow here!!! ;)

  9. Way down here in Mississippi, we're being told to prepare for a "winter weather event" tomorrow - depending on where the line falls, either 4-8" of snow, or up to an inch of snow and/or ice, or just a miserable cold sleety rain. We're all preparing to curl up into a fetal position until it's over!

  10. I think Sue that we will get our snow, and cold. I love your photos of your adorable home and all of your garden bliss. Spring will be here soon, so just keep dreaming.

  11. Dear Sue, I smiled when I saw your spring countdown ... you are the first to add it to your blog this year I think. I am amazed that I do not dream about gardening considering I am so obsessive about it. Unless I don't remember those dreams. Wishing you a happy and healthy gardening year! P x

  14. Your zone is the same as mine in central Massachusetts but very different conditions, I expect.
I'm doing some posts with lots of pictures from gardens that I've visited to keep me cheered in this cold, dark time. Please stop by and see if they cheer you, too.

  15. I rarely remember my dreams, and I don't think I've ever dreamt of gardening. I *do* daydream about gardening though -- if I'm sitting out on the patio I get to daydreaming about how nice it would be if we had this growing here, or that growing there etc. I guess that's how gardens grow and develop :-)

  16. My garden is covered with snow now. I don't necessarily dream about gardening, but I get out the books and read about it! I'll start scheming for next summer soon.

    Have a great 2011~

  17. It's hard to believe how little snow you've had, Sue. This year it seems the South is getting hit worse than the Midwest. Ours all melted last weekend, but more is on the way tonight. Looks like your garden is all snuggled in for the winter with its cozy blanket of leaves.

I do have dreams about gardening--usually in my dreams it looks more like Monet's garden:)

  18. Sue, for some reason this year, I am not anxious for spring....I still haven't brought my seeds down to check them over........I plan to go get them out of the barn this afternoon.

We are getting a light snow now. I am hoping for maybe 6 inches but I won't say that where anyone can hear me!
