Our Happy Critter Family

Last week, after reading that I wasn't happy with how my photos taken through the window turned out, Tom, the Fishing Guy, suggested increasing the contrast, and darkening the photo. I had fun messing around adjusting this week's critter photos. The first dove photo is the original. The doves have a shrill scream as they fly off when we disturb them. I wonder if it's a warning call for other birds.

This is how it looked with the modifications Tom suggested. Thanks Tom! I'm sure I have more to learn, but I'm tickled with the difference.

I have pretty much the same visitors to show. Here is one of the dark-eyed juncos.

I caught the sparrows interacting. LOL

And, now for the squirrel show! Our daughter-in-law brought over some acorns she had raked from her yard in the fall. Larry put them on the rain barrel, and oh, my, I counted 6 squirrels out there the day I took these! I am disappointed the video I took won't load onto the blog. I keep getting an error message. I'll try again another time. These squirrels are different individuals. In many ways, I'd rather not have them around, but they are here, so I'll take their photos!

  2. Nice job with the photos, Sue. I love the mourning doves, they seem so peaceful. We have quite a few visit our feeders and I enjoy their mournful songs too.

The difference in your photo is amazing with the editing...I've written that instruction down for myself to try, thank you! The sparrows are funny aren't they?

  7. isn't it amazing the positions squirrels can get in to get food...they are so cute...but can be a disaster to a garden...

  8. We're stuck with the squirrels so we might as well enjoy them! Love the photos~the dove looks like it's just resting for a moment, feeling the love from the gardener. gail

  12. Hi Sue~~ I've been messing around with my camera too. It's fun to see the befores and afters. Not very much snow in these pics. Is it melting?

  15. At least the squirrels are entertaining... I had to mess with my contrast and stuff too. I never realized how poorly footprints in the snow translate to the computer screen.

  16. Thanks for the visit. Kitchen was a lot of work. Our floor is wood called "tiger wood". We love the color and it doesn't show dirt, but it does show dents if you drop anything on it. We are ok with that. We just think it adds character. Love the lighting. Our old kitchen was very dark, and the new lighting is wonderful. Good luck with yours. I will be checking back to see how it is going.

  19. The squirrels are "kinda" cute, but I sure wouldn't want them eating my garden! Our newish neighborhood had such small trees that we have none here yet! Don't be too impressed with my indoor blooming begonias, I bought it that way! If it ever reblooms inside, then you can be impressed. But they did last a long time!

  20. Sue,

Every day our 2 year old granddaughter climbs on my lap when I'm working at the computer and asks to see the squirrels, so I head over to your blog.

She barks at Heidi, tweets at your birds and laughs at the "Silly squirrels" who are in the "birds house taking their food".

It is a bright spot in her day, and the giggles and snuggles as we look at them together is a bright spot in mine.

    We both love your pictures!

  21. Sue, the first photo of the mourning dove looks like a painting, especially with the blue and red in the photo. It's really stunning. I say....Frame It!

  22. Wow - that really did make a difference to that photo. It looks great! Your squirrel photos are great. I love squirrels, they are so entertaining. I don't mind them sharing the bird seed and surprisingly, it seems the birds don't either. I have a photo (dark and blurry) of a squirrel on the back wall, next to a mourning dove and a cardinal, all of them eating sunflower seeds.
