More Signs of Spring

These pics were taken yesterday, March 6.

Pictured above are crocus, iris, geum, I think Prairie Smoke, tulips, lamium, drumstick  alliums, geranium, and columbine in the above collage. I can't remember what the plant on the left in the 2nd row is.

Candytuft, iris, asters chives, thyme, still brown sage, and geranium are pictured above.

My favorite time of the year is beginning.  The weight I feel from winter is almost lifted, and I can resume doing what I love to do, get my hands in the dirt, and grow food and flowers.  To those whose seasons are warmer than mine, your I've enjoyed your posts and photos.  To those in colder areas, hang in there, spring is on its way!

  1. Hi, Sue,

I am in a colder climate, but have hope that spring WILL arrive soon to the Pocono Mountains of PA. I really enjoy your blog which I have been following for a few weeks now. Your photos are great! Thanks for the encouragement.

  4. Yep. Spring is coming. Nothing can stop it now. I don't even think we'll see more than a couple of below freezing nights here in NC. Our first frost was in late November. I'm hoping for an early last frost too. If I could predict the future, it would be the first thing I would want to know. My annuals are just starting to germinate.

Can't wait to see it all in the summer.

  6. Sue: Very nice captures of Sping. We have just turned the corner the last to days. I expect we will see snow next week.

  7. I think your growing season is ahead of us in Michigan. We get the "lake effect" which keeps the weather colder longer. It's supposed to be good for the fruit trees - it keeps them from blooming too soon and getting frosted, destroying the fruit.

  8. Woo hoo! Love to see those amazing signs of renewal. It won't be long now before gardening can be a daily thing! You're right, it has been fun to see a glimpse of the future and gain hope as the season unfolds around the world.

  11. Thanks for the comments. I love reading them, and even though I don't always get each one replied to, I try to visit your blogs and leave comments on your posts. I think other people do that, too, because I'll notice people coming over after I've visited their blog. Hey, I think I'll write something for my sidebar about this.

    Have a great Sunday!

  12. Wow Sue, you must be at least a week or two ahead of us. I don't even see crocuses in my beds yet and I'm sooo looking forward to seeing them. It looks like you're soon to be blessed with a nice show! Great pics. :-)

  14. Hi Kris, I see you were able to get on. I am sorry I keep forgetting to reply to your email about the size of the pics. One thing I was wondering about, is if the increase of the number of posts on each blog page could affect the time it takes to load up on some computers. I could change that if you think it would help.

I haven't seen any bees yet. I'm glad you did, though.

  15. Sue, yes the # of posts that appear on a page impacts the load...extra posts = extra pics = extra load time. You can have more post per page if you reduce the size of the pics that you upload to the server. If you get a chance, email me. Would love to hear from you! :-)

  19. Racquel and Kris, for some reason, I thought it was Kris saying she saw a bee. Maybe it's because I know Kris posts about bees a lot.

Kris, I'll go back and change the number of posts on a page. The reason I did that was because I noticed the pics in my sidebar were going down lower than posts. Also, when I look at someone's blog, I frequently scroll down and read whatever is on the page, but don't click on "older posts". I don't know what others do, though.

Marsha, I think you are zone 4, right? I am in SE Nebraska, zone 5b. I can sometimes grow zone 6 perennials.

Marsha and Anna, It is good seeing new signs of spring almost daily. I was wondering today about how long it takes for spring to arrive from zone to zone. I had trouble wording what I was wondering. I wonder if it's usually the same amount of time from year to year when certain flowers come up and bloom, compared to other zones. That was awkward too, so hopefully you'll kind of understand what I was wondering today!

Thanks Maureen, I'll go over and check that out!

  21. Dear Sue,
Spring has sprung in your gardens! It is fun to see sprouts. Seems as if everyday now, there is something else that wakes up.
Cold front coming in tonight with rain and now I read flash flood warnings...
Hope you stay warm. Looks as if the temps will drop 50 degrees...
    March is always so fickled!
    Happy Spring,
    Sherry

  22. So nice to see signs of spring!
I'm watching blizzard-like snowfall right now...and hoping my small potted plants will survive this round of cold weather.

  23. Hi Sue! Yep...spring has come to your neck of the woods! It won't be long now and we'll be whining about sore backs! Can't wait! LOL.

  25. So there's hope that spring will come soon. Right now my driveway is turning into a huge mess. I can't wait for this part of the season to be over, I really don't like the slushy puddles all over the place.

  26. Chandramouli, Thanks, and I am so excited that our growing season has started!

Sherry, Yes, spring has sprung, and I am finding new things that are waking up. We are expecting cold days this week, too. I hope your weather didn't get too severe.

Aerie-el, I hope you and your potted plants are doing well. We could still have some severe weather, but most of the plants coming up can handle it.

Kylee, I am so ready to get out there and turn my compost pile!

Rosemary, I got my hands dirty today, and may include a pic of them in a future post if it turned out OK. I hope your warmer weather comes soon.

Cinj, Keep up your hope! Spring is on its way. The snow has provided some great moisture for our plants. Still, I hope it's finished.
