SkyWatch Friday From a Local Lake, pics taken 1/2/09

It was hard to pick just one or two.  We had a fun time at the lake, and I have lots of sun on the ice pics with whatever those distortions from the glare are, but wanted to include one, because I like it anyway.  Even though we had no snow in our yard, there was still some there, and as you can see, especially from the last pic, the lake was still frozen.  Thanks to the people who host Skywatch, and click here or the icon on my sidebar to see skies from all over the world.

  2. Oh wow that is some frozen water. LOL are those people standing out on that frozen lake?? I would be worried it would break standing on it. Great shots. Hope you have a wonderful week.

  3. Thanks Lew/Linnea and Kathy,
It was colder out there than I thought it would be. It was in the 40s, but out there, it feels colder. I was glad Larry had a head cover for me to wear.

We saw those guys setting up to ice fish as we were leaving. I took several pics, but this is the one that included the sky. I was trying to take the pics discreetly so they wouldn't notice, and also so that their faces weren't clear, to protect their privacy. I watched as they used an ice auger to dig a hole to fish in.

  4. Happy Skywatch.
It does look very cold. How nice to see them setting up for ice fishing. I have never seen it done. Only have read about it.
    Stay warm.

  6. the water looks deep. You would not be able to do that here in NC at any time of the year. Beautiful photos. I like the old tree by the water's edge.

  9. Thanks again, fellow bloggers. I don't think I can keep up with individual comments for Skywatch unless there is a question to be answered. Happy SWF and have a great weekend!

  11. The sunny and cold vistas look so contrasting, Sue! The bare trees look as if they're meditating to gain energy for their coming year.

  12. Thank you so much for visiting, Sue and for leaving such lovely comments. I love all your winter shots. It looks so cold. Ice fishing must take a very special kind of patience.

On my blog, you said you were surprised at my memory. Actually, I had the detailed information because I've always kept a pretty comprehensive journal.

  15. Sue: What a neat series of photos. That sun glare happens often on sun shots. I love your ice fishing shot. We haven't had enough consistent cold weather to have safe ice.

  17. Sorry to ask a question, Sue, but is ice fishing something people are wary of being photographed doing in your part of the world? The ornamental lake in the town nearest us in the North of Scotland froze over the holiday, and the newpapers were full of police warnings to children not to venture onto it. That stopped me taking what would otherwise have been a fun photo of teenagers playing ice hockey on it - I really didn't want to risk getting them into trouble.

  20. I can feel the cold all the way down here. Walking on Ice makes me nervous; you can tell I am from Florida

  21. Thanks for even more great comments. What fun! Our dog went out on the ice, but I was nervous. I didn't realize it was thick enough to ice fish on until we were about to leave.

Linda, the guys didn't know I was taking their pic, and I did not zoom in on their faces, because I didn't know if I would have to get their permission to put them on my blog. Plus, the pic was about the total scene, and they were just part of it. Ice fishing is allowed there, so they wouldn't get in trouble for being there.

Kay, I used to keep journals off and on when I was in my 20s, but am not organized enough to do it consistently. It's cool that you remember where your older ones are, too.
