I couldn't find the file of pics I exported for the post I was going to write, so I uploaded this hibiscus flower from last summer, and then forgot to see what date it was taken. I just couldn't stand to have this long go by without putting up another post. Well, the days are getting longer! I have been telling people I like January better than November because it is closer to spring. It is currently 33 degrees F. The temps are still going up and down, and are expected to this week. There's talk of more snow, too. That's OK with me for a couple more months. I am hoping the weather is warmer in the spring than it was the last couple of years.
This hibiscus is behind our garage, and we don't have a good view of it, but our neighbor friend enjoys it from her back yard. I hope you all are having a good start to 2009!
Don't worry, your garden will soon be all green and colorful! Awesome picture. Is that Hibiscus rosa-sinesis? looks very different, though. May be it's the angle in which the photo's taken?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what kind it is. I got it at a grocery store garden center about 8 years ago. The flowers are about 8 inches in diameter.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could grow hibiscus. I've noticed the days are lighter longer lately. Spring is coming closer day by day. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI love that hibiscus! And I'm with you. Despite the fact that my birthday is in November I still prefer January and the hope it brings. January has never been a "downer" month for me. November? Cold, wind, rain...yuk!
ReplyDeleteGreaT eye candy for winter time blahs. The days are getting a little longer, but temps are still cold. Can't wait for a dood warm up.
ReplyDeleteA lovely infusion of summer for these January days.
ReplyDeleteA sweet hibiscus indeed. Love the pink blush.
ReplyDeleteYour hibiscus is beautiful. I've never bought one before, but I keep admiring them...I may have to break down and get one this year. You must be doing something right to have kept it this long!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's this cold, I don't mind some snow either--it will keep my perennials warm.
That's a beautiful hibiscus. Gather some seeds and plant one where you can see that beauty!! It's Jack Frost here tonight and tomorrow night and then supposed to get up to 70 on Friday! Talk about yo yo weather, I'm with you there.
ReplyDeleteGood photo choice, it's lovely. A really welcome break from the snow scene outside my window.

Your philosophy of January reminds me of what my mother always said about February being a short month. When she said, "You know February's a short month," one was almost persuaded that it had many fewer days than all the rest, rather than just 2 or 3.
ReplyDeleteStay warm, spring will be here soon.

Dear Sue,
ReplyDeleteI also can wait for Spring. She came too early in 2007 and I lost over 400 plants...I am still grieving...
Your hibiscus is so pretty.
Sherry
Sue, That's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so right about January being better than November...spring is less than 60 days away-hooray!
Lovely post for a lovely, hope-filled day.

Hi Sue, The hibiscus flower is gorgeous. I've never tried to grow one, but you make me think maybe I ought to. I totally agree about Jan. being a great month...to be honest, it's been cold, but sunny with blue skies often enough that it's tolerable. Take care!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I love the colouring on that hibiscus. It looks like it's blushing!
ReplyDelete'Closer to spring' - what a great way of looking at it!
Looks like a Hibiscus moscheutos. Lovely color!
