I forgot to mention in my post that ...Thanks, Dee! I forgot to mention in my post that I just recently learned that Maximilian sunflowers are a host plant for bordered patch butterflies. This was the first year for them in the yard. I have seen a few bordered patches over the years, but this season, I saw up to three at a time, and I saw at least one way more often than in the past. It was a good year for the butterflies, but I didn't see as many monarchs heading south in the fall as I have in some years.
